Desert Ironwood is native to the southern United States and northern Mexico. It is a very heavy and hard wood, which is nevertheless easy to process and polish. This makes it one of the most desirable woods for knife handles.
The blocks offered here have perfect burl growth, a strong light-dark contrast and a particularly beautiful coloring.
After fine sanding or polishing, desert ironwood should not be treated with natural oils such as linseed oil, otherwise it tends to darken considerably. I recommend finishing with Tru-Oil.
